"Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To" (murdersofa)

I got the Riv’s grille painted black (close up pic below). Probably gonna just turn the Riv into a Murdersofa MKII with flat-black paint but with gold accents instead of red, because CLASSY. I tried buffing the green paint but it’s really too far gone. Prep for any other paint is gonna suuuucccckkkkk because you can’t spray anything over oil-based paints like Rustoleum. Ugh.

Plastidip will go over anything. Just saying...

Plastidip can’t be power-washed or go through automatic car washes in one piece.

Sure you can. As long as you do it right and let it cure.

Yeah it can. And it lasts pretty long too. Trust me on this one

Hmm. I guess they’ve probably changed the formula a little since I did the LeSabre. I tried powerwashing mud off the hood once and it took off little chunks of the dip. The dip was a year and a half old at that point, though.

From what I gather they key is to prep/clean/dry the car completely and properly before the spray, and when peeling off things that need to be peeled off, make sure not to pull loose anything you want to stay. Can’t say I’ve done a whole car, but my emblems and grille are holding up great, as are my coworkers bumper corners and various other pieces on his Jeep. Both go through car washes regularly. I want to do my wheels in copper here at some point...
If you’re working things loose powerwhashing, maybe you don’t have enough layers, or maybe the prep work wasn’t sufficient? Or are you using too much pressure? Though they could have also changed the formula..

The car was deep cleaned and thoroughly dried beforehand, and has somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 coats on it. I’m not the only one. My friend is panel-by-panel spraying his RSX matte black and he hit it with a power washer and his entire roof dip flew off in one sheet.

You have to wet sand it and hit with a machine buffer. Rustoleum can glow if you work it (and if it’s on thick enough).
I used to use Rustoleum Red for the older 3 wheelers I dealt with and I could get a mirror reflection in the tanks on them.
